There’s a kind of tiredness that sleep doesn’t fix.
It’s the tiredness of answering the same question five times in a minute. Of feeding someone who doesn’t recognize the food — or you. Of holding back tears so they don’t feel guilty for forgetting.
This chapter is about that tired.
Let’s Start Here:
You don’t have to be soft all the time.
You don’t need to glow like a saint in every moment. You don’t need to breathe through every frustration.
You just need to come back to softness. Eventually.
Here's What Softness Looks Like (Even When You're Tired):
- Pausing before you snap — or pausing after you snap
- Saying “I love you” through gritted teeth, and meaning it anyway
- Holding their hand even if yours is shaking
- Walking away for five minutes so you can come back better
Softness is not weakness.
It’s skill. It’s stamina. It’s a survival tactic wrapped in love.
Your Body Is Looping Too
You’re running loops of:
- Responsibility
- Grief
- Sleep deprivation
- Emotional maintenance
And guess what?
That’s exhausting.
You’re not failing. You’re fatigued.
🧘 How to Reset the Loop:
- Sit. Close your eyes. Say one true thing.
(“I’m here.” “I’m tired.” “I care.”)
- Put one hand on your chest. The other on your stomach. Breathe.
- Set a timer for 2 minutes and do nothing.
(Literally nothing. Let the world float.)
- Ask for help.
(Even if it’s just someone sitting with you in the same room.)
What Softness Is NOT:
- Smiling all the time
- Never getting frustrated
- Having the perfect tone
- Being okay with everything
Softness is letting the loop hold you too.
Because you’re in it. Not above it.
💡 Solace Tip:
“Caregivers aren’t lamps. You don’t have to glow all day.
You just have to flicker honestly and keep coming back.”
